When we create, a piece of us is given to the world. In each creative decision, there is a reflection of the maker, the context that surrounds them, and their wishes for the world. If only for a moment, you gain a glimpse into the mind of the maker and are provoked toward new modes of thinking. The forms we create express the issues important to us, ranging from environmental concerns to gender inequality, consumer culture to mental health. Some artists speak to these issues directly, while others focus on aesthetic or utilitarian concerns.  The work displayed here was relatively uninhibited by the economic pressures that exist outside of an academic institution; a privilege which necessitates a mindful creative voice. Overtly or subtly, all makers exercise agency on some level of their work. With each of us striving toward equity, joy, and truth, the world is a richer place.
