 PROCESS

A well crafted object arises from an iterative process of design, practice, product and reflection. Through drawing and modeling we begin to bring our ideas to life. This physical act allows us to visualize our thoughts and execute them efficiently. However, methods, materials and even the process itself dictate the design at every step. By engaging with the material early on, we can work through ideas and encounter the limitations of our skill. Failure of an idea, a form, or a technique is a necessary part of any creative exercise, allowing one to recenter on the essential and evaluate further options. Reflecting on our own and as a collective moves the work along, amidst both solitary tedium and formal dialogue. For many, the ultimate purpose of craft work is the struggle, joy, and learning that comes from the process itself. Just as the tools and methods devised in the past contribute to contemporary processes, each project builds on the last, informing our lives in and beyond the act of making.
