Having spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest, and most of it in some transitional form of habituation, my art and arts education are based on opportunity and proximity – opportunities to find myself in a workspace, opportunities to use found materials or other people’s garbage, and proximity to like-minded people who might have space, tools or materials I can use.

My art reflects the raw natural resources available to us in abundance here. Most of my pieces include living elements and incorporate a variety of raw materials. My work is made primarily out of cheap or found objects, and recycled trash. Everything I make is a reflection of my experiences as a transient, nomadic person living comfortably without means coddled and inspired by the beauty and abundance of the Northwest.

It is my belief that our culture is burying itself in its own waste and refuse and barricading itself away from the natural world with pro-
grams and devices. This is my primary motivation for combining recycled materials with natural elements. I believe we can live in a world

that successfully integrates our modern needs with our natural surroundings. The work I produce tries to integrate these feelings and to

present a view of humans buried in their own excess, looking out unto an untouched paradise that we have chosen to leave behind.
